If your nervous system has been running “on” for too long, your body often needs safety cues before your mind can think clearly. These grounding practices are gentle, practical, and designed to support chronic stress and burnout recovery.

7 grounding practices you can try

  • Orienting: slowly look around and name 5 safe things you see

  • Feet-to-floor pressure: press down for 10 seconds, release, repeat

  • Longer exhale breathing: inhale 4, exhale 6 for 2–3 minutes

  • Hand-to-heart + belly: feel warmth and movement without forcing change

  • Temperature shift: cool water on wrists or a warm mug in your hands

  • Micro-movement: shoulder rolls, jaw release, gentle neck turns

  • Containment: wrap in a blanket and notice the boundary of support

When to use these

Use these practices before difficult conversations, after triggering content, or anytime you notice racing thoughts, tight chest, or shutdown. Consistency matters more than intensity.
